1. KEY POINTS

QR Decoder: Scan & PDF Tools (the “App”), published by Jesus Afkerian, an individual operating under the AFKERIAN INTERACTIVE brand (“AFKERIAN INTERACTIVE,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), uses Google Play services Nearby Connections for the Stock Pro remote scanner, which lets a phone send the codes it scans to a tablet or Chromebook running the App. Nearby Connections is a Google service, provided by Google LLC under Google's terms.


2. COMPONENT

- Google Play services Nearby: com.google.android.gms:play-services-nearby, version 19.5.1.

This is proprietary software that Google distributes under the Android Software Development Kit License (https://developer.android.com/studio/terms).


3. HOW THE APP USES IT

- The remote scanner works only while it is open on both devices. The devices find each other over Bluetooth, Bluetooth Low Energy and Wi-Fi. While the tablet or Chromebook waits for a connection, nearby devices that have the App's remote scanner open can see its model name, and the phone shows its own model name when it asks to connect.
- Both screens show the same 4-digit code. The devices connect only after the user accepts the connection on both devices.
- The phone sends each scanned code (up to 4,096 characters) and its barcode format directly to the other device, which sends back a confirmation containing the code. Nothing passes through a server of ours.
- The App asks for the Android permissions Nearby Connections needs only when you open this feature, and does not use them to determine your location.


4. DATA

Google states that connections between devices are fully encrypted, and that when apps use the Nearby SDK, Google Play services collects usage analytics: discovery and connection latency, reliability and throughput, together with the device model, country, build version and application package name.
